بيان المجلس حول تأثير الأوضاع الإقتصادية على المواطنين في شهر رمضان المبارك

Statement of the National Council for Liberties and Human Rights on the Impact of Economic Conditions on Citizens during the Blessed Month of Ramadan

On the occasion of the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan, the National Council for Liberties and Human Rights extends its warmest congratulations to all the people of our great Libyan nation, praying to Allah that it may be a month of mercy, goodness, blessings, and forgiveness.

On this momentous occasion, the Council continues to monitor the consequences of the ongoing economic crisis and its impact on all segments of the Libyan population. The average citizen is suffering from rising prices of goods and services, while their purchasing power remains weak due to the lack of liquidity and cash shortages.

The Council warns of the repercussions of this hardship and its effect on human rights. It emphasizes the need to adhere to the principles outlined in international charters, national legislation, and constitutions, especially the right of every individual to a decent standard of living, the fight against corruption, and the prevention of profiteering.

The Council calls upon traders and businessmen to refrain from exploiting the blessed month of Ramadan as an opportunity to make excessive profits, as this negatively impacts the ordinary citizen who may not even have enough to meet their daily needs.

Furthermore, the Council urges the executive authority, along with all its relevant agencies and institutions, to ensure the availability of essential goods, to support and subsidize them, reduce their prices, and regulate their markets to prevent monopolies.

Finally, the Council stresses the necessity of cooperation and solidarity among all state institutions, including the Central Bank of Libya, to support the availability of goods and services, monitor price increases, and hold violators accountable, in order to ensure a decent standard of living for citizens and uphold their right to a dignified life.
